BlogWho Gives a Sh*t About Blogging?01.12.2010I often speak to clients that say; I don’t see the point in a blog, what am I going to write about? I don’t have time to sit down and write a post, no one will read it anyway. People always have something to say, you always have an opinion. We often have questions to raise or problems to rant about and your blog is the perfect platform to do exactly that – get out there, get people to look, consider and comment. You will be surprised at the amount of people who do take the time to read what you have written. Don’t be afraid to show your personality and reveal the real you. People want to know that it’s a real person who has written the blog and wonder what your personality is like and what you have to offer. Challenge common beliefs to create interest and discussion. People are far more likely to read blogs with headlines that make them feel uncomfortable than those that they agree with straight away. Consider the challenges people often face in our industry, training techniques, nutrition, diets, fitness routines. Do you believe all that you read? Have you seen something that you do or don’t agree with? Do you think you have the answer to losing weight fast, or the best tips on nutrition, well write about it! A blog does not have to be an essay, some of the best posts only take a couple of minutes to read and would take about the same time to write. Your blog does not have to be the boring standard written style, it could be a video, a recording of you speaking, or be based on a group of images; it can be as creative as you want it to be. Your posts could be new stretching techniques, a review on a new fitness product, a fitness routine that can be carried out at home, or a review on a fitness book. If you don’t want to give tips and advice then you could tell a story: how did you loose your weight? What inspired you to become involved with fitness? Write about boot camps or your local gym. Remember to make your post relevant to a wide range of viewers not just those who are actively involved with the topic; if you are writing about a fitness holiday abroad include all the fitness info as well as the sounds, the smells, the reactions of others and why it’s so different from a fitness holiday in the UK. A blog post can basically be anything you want it to be as long as it is going to be interesting to view or read, which will engage people, create discussion and get people commenting. People are far more likely to read your blog that has 10 or more comments because they are going to wonder what all the fuss is about. There are many important reasons to write a blog some are more obvious than others. Blogs are great for creating interest in who you are and what you do, but blogs aren’t all about getting people talking and finding out who you are. This is where the technical bit comes in. Do you know what search engine optimisation (SEO) is? If not you should stop reading here and go and read my other blogs, this is very important for you and your websites success. Search engines see sites that are frequently updated as more important, more relevant than those that have not been updated for months. By writing a blog post each month or week (which ever you choose) you are updating the content of your website, this in turn will help the ranking of your site in the search results on search engines. This is why it is important to have a blog that is integrated into your website. Why write a blog at all if you are not going to use it to its full potential? This why we advise you to not use free services like Eblogger and Wordpress. Although these are great tools and yes they are free they are not going to help improve the ranking of your site and they are still owned by these companies. They are a good way to get yourself started and get your name out there but we strongly advise that you move up and onwards to the integrated blog. Create your own online following as opposed to one that is controlled and owned by these large blogging services. I hope that this has inspired you, giving you an insight to how exciting and varied blogs can be. There are no rules when it comes to blogging, so what are you waiting for? Get blogging! |
